Gas Company Workers Play a Lighthearted Prank, Giving a Lady Quite a Fright

Some blue-collar jobs that pay well can become quite monotonous at times. Working for a gas company is a prime example. While there’s always the inherent risk of explosions or other hazards, it generally isn’t as perilous as working for a power company.

Among the tasks of gas company workers is the routine job of walking around to check meters, which doesn’t offer much excitement unless you factor in encounters with unfriendly dogs.

In an attempt to combat their boredom, the two gas company employees in this anecdote decided to initiate a little competition. However, their playful antics ended up causing an unintended near-heart attack for one of their unsuspecting customers!

Two gas company servicemen, a senior training supervisor, and a young trainee were out checking meters in a suburban neighborhood.

They parked their truck at the end of the alley and worked their way around to the other end.

At the last house, a woman looking out of her kitchen window watched as the two men checked her gas meter.

Finishing their meter check, the senior supervisor challenged his younger colleague to a foot race down the alley back the truck to prove that he as an older guy can still outrun the younger man.

As they came running up to the truck, the two men realized the lady from the last house was huffing and puffing right behind them.

They stopped and asked the lady what was wrong, tow which she replied gasping for breath:

“When I see two gas men running as hard as you two were, I figured I’d better run too!”
