Campbell Soup Company Rebrands After 102 Years: A New Chapter Begins

After more than a century of being synonymous with canned soup, Campbell Soup Company is set to undergo a significant transformation. The company, renowned for its iconic soups, is changing its name to The Campbell’s Company to better reflect its diverse and expanding product lineup, which now includes snacks such as Snyder’s of Hanover, Pepperidge Farm, and more.

Pending shareholder approval in November, this name change will help the company align its branding with its broader portfolio.

“This subtle yet meaningful adjustment maintains our iconic name recognition and the strong equity we’ve built over 155 years, while also capturing the full scope of our evolving product range,” said Campbell CEO Mark Clouse in a statement on Tuesday.

Campbell’s, a staple in the soup aisle, has significantly broadened its reach beyond soups. The company also owns popular snack brands like Goldfish, V8 Beverages, Cape Cod, and Pepperidge Farm. Recently, it further expanded its offerings with the acquisition of Sovos Brands, known for Rao’s sauces.

Despite the shift, Campbell’s remains committed to its soup heritage. “We will always love soup, and we’ll never lose focus on this vital part of our business,” Mr. Clouse assured during the company’s investor day. “However, we are much more than soup now.”

In the past year, Campbell’s snack sales surged by 13%, while soup sales grew by just 3%, highlighting the shift in consumer preferences.
