When we visit the doctor, humor is usually the last thing on our minds. Most of us only make that trip when we have something serious to discuss. That’s why this mother and daughter were so surprised when their doctor managed to slip in a bit of humor during a rather unexpected diagnosis.

A woman took her 16-year-old daughter to the doctor. “Okay, Mrs. James, what seems to be the problem?” the doctor asked.

The mother replied, “It’s my daughter Darla. She’s been having unusual cravings, gaining weight, and feeling sick most mornings.”

The doctor examined Darla thoroughly, then turned to her mother and said, “Well, I hate to break it to you, but it looks like Darla is pregnant—about four months along, if I had to guess.”

“Pregnant?!” the mother exclaimed. “That’s impossible! She’s never even been left alone with a man! Have you, Darla?”

Darla, wide-eyed, responded, “No, Mother! I’ve never even kissed a man!”

The doctor then walked over to the window and stared out of it for a long moment. Finally, Mrs. James, puzzled, asked, “Is something wrong out there, doctor?”

The doctor, still gazing out the window, replied, “Not really, but the last time something like this happened, a star appeared in the east, and three wise men came over the hill. I’ll be damned if I’m going to miss it this time!”
