Revealed: Prince Philip’s Harsh Nickname for Meghan Markle Used in Private Conversations

Prince Philip, who passed away in 2021, was reportedly cautious about the former “Suits” actress and often compared her to Wallis Simpson, the spouse of Prince Edward.

The late Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, is said to have had a particularly sharp nickname for Meghan Markle, which he refrained from using in her presence, according to a royal expert. Prince Philip, who died in 2021, reportedly harbored reservations about the former “Suits” actress and drew comparisons with Wallis Simpson, an American divorcée who married into the royal family as the wife of Prince Edward.

This comparison between Meghan and Wallis Simpson is not new, but it’s suggested that Philip took it a step further by assigning Meghan a nickname that reflected these parallels. Royal commentator and author Ingrid Seward has mentioned that Philip perceived “similarities” between Meghan and the late Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson, resulting in a distinctive nickname that he never used directly when addressing Meghan.

In an interview with GB News, she noted, “I think Prince Philip was very astute when it came to people. He didn’t always focus on their faults; he tried to see their virtues. However, he couldn’t overlook the striking similarities between Meghan and Harry, and Edward and Mrs. Simpson.”

Wallis Simpson, an American divorcée who became the Duchess of Windsor, remains one of the most contentious figures in modern royal history. Her relationship with King Edward VIII led to his abdication in December 1936, less than a year into his reign, so he could marry her.

Throughout their years in exile, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor consistently made headlines, one of their most controversial moments occurring in 1937. During a visit to Nazi Germany, they were infamously photographed giving the Nazi salute while meeting Adolf Hitler, an incident that sparked widespread shock and criticism.

In her insightful book, “My Mother and I,” Ingrid reveals that the late Prince Philip was cautious about Meghan Markle. She writes, “One of the few not charmed by Meghan was Prince Philip. He quickly spotted her resemblance to Wallis Simpson and nicknamed her ‘DoW.'”

She also disclosed that Prince Philip considered Meghan a disruptive presence in the Royal Family. Meanwhile, his wife, the late Queen Elizabeth II, maintained a more optimistic view, holding “high hopes” for Meghan’s integration into the family.

Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Meghan and Harry have established their home in California with their two children. Harry is expected to return to the UK next month to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games, but Meghan is likely to stay in the U.S. due to concerns over safety and a wish to avoid any potential drama in the UK.

Meghan’s trips to the UK have been infrequent since the couple stepped down from their royal roles, with her appearances limited to major events like Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral last year. She notably did not attend King Charles III’s coronation, which Harry attended alone.
