Ellen DeGeneres Says ‘I Am Not Mean’ and ‘I’m Done’ With Fame After Next Netflix Special

Ellen DeGeneres, the cherished comedian known for delighting audiences for years, recently revealed her decision to conclude her stand-up tour. While performing in Santa Rosa, California, Ellen informed the audience that “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up” would be her final tour.

At one of her shows, an audience member inquired whether Ellen would be seen on other platforms like Broadway or in films after her tour ends. Ellen responded candidly, saying, “Um, no. This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special,” which is scheduled to air at the end of 2024, “I’m done.”

It has been announced that several of Ellen’s forthcoming shows, including those in Dallas, San Francisco, Seattle, and Chicago, have been canceled. Although Ellen has not yet released a statement about these cancellations, she expressed her appreciation for her fans’ ongoing support during her performance, jokingly updating them with, “Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me. I got chickens.”

The 66-year-old humorously referenced recent controversies by saying, “Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean,” and then light-heartedly added that she might eventually be “kicked out for being old.” However, Ellen firmly dismissed the notion that she is unkind, stating, “I am many things, but I am not mean.”

Ellen reflected on her perspective during her peak fame, admitting, “I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me.’ Now, I realize I said that during the height of my popularity.” Despite facing various challenges, Ellen expressed gratitude towards her loyal fanbase.

At a previous tour stop at the Largo at the Coronet Theater in West Hollywood, Ellen DeGeneres opened up in response to a fan’s question, expressing that the way her show concluded was “so hurtful.”

“I just thought, ‘Well, this is not how I wanted to end my career, but this is how it’s ending.’ … I just hated the way the show ended,” she explained. “I loved that show so much and I just hated that the last time people would see me is that way.”

Degeneres’ “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up” tour continues through Aug. 17.
