Walmart Unveils Digital Price Tags Rollout in 2,300 Stores
|Shopping at Walmart is set to change significantly in the coming years.
The retailer has announced a shift from traditional price tags to digital shelf labels, a move expected to be a “game-changer” for both Walmart associates and customers.
In early June, Walmart began testing this technology at a store in Grapevine, Texas.
The pilot was so successful that the company announced just weeks later that it would expand the technology to 2,300 stores within the next two years.
With Walmart associates currently spending hours each week adjusting prices for new items, rollbacks, and markdowns, the digital tags will enable them to update prices for thousands of items via a mobile app within minutes.
Daniela Boscan, the Food & Consumable Team Lead in Hurst, Texas, said the digital shelf labels have “transformed” her daily routine.
The technology has boosted productivity while reducing “walking time.”
“A price change that used to take an associate two days to update now takes only minutes with the new DSL system. This efficiency means we can spend more time assisting customers and less time on repetitive tasks.”
The digital shelf labels also make it easier to locate items on a shelf, whether it’s a product that needs to be restocked or an item for an online order.
Of course, a new pricing system raises some concerns. Could Walmart implement dynamic pricing?
Only time will tell.
