Teacher’s Clever Comeback Shuts Down Student’s Sassy Replies
|In a 6th-grade science class, Mrs. Parker posed a question that left her students stumped. Silence filled the room as they exchanged uncertain glances, unsure how to respond.
“Class, can anyone tell me which human body part increases to ten times its size when stimulated?” she asked.
After a moment, Mary, a bold and outspoken student, shot up from her seat. “Mrs. Parker, I don’t think you should be asking us sixth-graders that question! I’m telling my parents, and they’ll report you to the principal—you could lose your job!” she exclaimed, clearly upset.
Mrs. Parker calmly repeated the question, encouraging her students to think it over. “Now, can anyone tell me which body part increases to ten times its size when stimulated?”
Mary leaned over and whispered to a classmate, “She’s definitely going to get into big trouble!”
The students remained silent, wary of giving an answer. Then, Billy, a bright student, hesitantly raised his hand and said, “The body part that increases ten times its size when stimulated is the pupil of the eye.”
The class breathed a collective sigh of relief as Mrs. Parker praised Billy for his answer. With a playful smile, she turned to Mary and said, “I have three things to say to you, young lady: One, you have a dirty mind. Two, you didn’t do your homework. And three, one day, you’re going to be very, very disappointed.”
