Andie MacDowell, a beloved actor since her debut in the 1980s, was once recognized for her distinctive curly brown locks. However, she is now a champion of gray pride, confidently showcasing her natural beauty.

As she gracefully ages, MacDowell humorously compares herself to George Clooney, stating, “because why not?”

Andie MacDowell, who turned 65 on April 21, is a natural beauty who proudly displays her age. She began her career as a model for high-fashion brands like Armani, Yves St Laurent, and Calvin Klein before making her screen debut in 1984’s “Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes.” Although her accent was too pronounced for the role of Jane in the Oscar-nominated film, MacDowell acted, but her voice was dubbed by Glenn Close.

The soft-spoken and glamorous actress gained recognition with a supporting role in “St. Elmo’s Fire,” where she joined the close-knit Brat Pack. She later starred in Steven Soderbergh’s directorial debut, “Sex, Lies & Videotape” (1989), which earned her her first Golden Globe nomination.

Perhaps her most iconic role came alongside Bill Murray in “Groundhog Day” (1993), a film that left a lasting impact on popular culture. Her commercial success continued to rise with the romantic comedy “Four Weddings and a Funeral” (1994) alongside Hugh Grant.

Known as a method actor, MacDowell took on a variety of roles in films like “Harrison’s Flowers” and the family TV series “Cedar Cove.” Unsurprisingly, she was chosen as the face of L’Oréal hair products in TV commercials, showcasing her beautiful brown locks.

Recently, MacDowell was spotted in Cannes in a casual outfit, proudly displaying her makeup-free face framed by her now gray-silver hair, which she had styled in a low bun. She wore a comfortable white striped mini dress paired with brown and black platform heels and dark shades.

MacDowell previously mentioned that she embraced her transition to gray hair during the COVID pandemic. She stated, “At the very beginning of quarantine, my hair started growing, and every time my kids would see me, they kept telling me I looked badass with my gray hair.” She added, “When I pulled it up in a bun, all you could see was the salt and pepper, which is what I am, you know, dark and silver. I like to compare myself to George Clooney because why not? I’ve been saying for a while now it was time for me, personally, to make that transition because I felt like it was appropriate for my personality and just who I am.”

Despite her managers advising her otherwise, MacDowell made the decision to embrace her gray hair. She stated, “I’m going to be more powerful if I embrace where I am right now. It’s time… If I don’t do it now, I won’t have the chance to be salt and pepper. I always wanted to be salt and pepper.”

In 2022, MacDowell graced the cover of Style magazine, flaunting her gray hair and natural look. She captioned it, “As we age, we deserve dignity and pride.” She continued, “We deserve to feel glorious! I’ve always said there’s no expiration date on beauty.”

And there’s certainly no expiration date on her acting career. In 2021, MacDowell starred in the Netflix drama series “Maid,” alongside her daughter Margaret Qualley, with whom she shares three children. Margaret, speaking about working with her mom, mentioned the unique experience of having her play her mother in the series.

MacDowell is currently filming “Goodrich” alongside Mila Kunis, Kevin Pollak, and Michael Keaton. The film is written and directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer, the daughter of Nancy Meyers and Charles Shyer, who, like Margaret, is part of a rising generation of Hollywood talents.

MacDowell expressed her hope for more opportunities to act with her daughter, emphasizing the preciousness of every moment and the fear that it might not happen again.
