John Foster Moves ‘American Idol’ Judges With Stirring Tribute to Randy Travis

John Foster, a student from Louisiana State University, has made it into the top 10 on American Idol and is winning hearts across the nation with his rich country voice and emotional performances.

At his first audition, John surprised both judges and viewers by revealing that he is studying to become an oncologist. He joked about being a “singing oncologist,” and from that moment, he became a fan favorite. His genuine spirit and passion for helping others made him stand out from the very beginning.

Throughout the competition, John has brought classic country music to life on the Idol stage. He performed songs like Neon Moon by Brooks and Dunn, Callin Baton Rouge by Garth Brooks, and even took on Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley. Each performance showed his southern charm and deep connection to the music.

But it was his original song, Tell That Angel I Love Her, that moved the audience to tears.

John wrote the song in memory of Maggie Dunn, one of his best friends, and Caroline, a close friend, who both lost their lives in a tragic car accident on New Years Eve in 2022. The accident happened when a police officer ran a red light during a high-speed chase.

Speaking about the song, John said,
“I wrote this for the two sweet angels taken from us too soon. Maggie was one of my best friends, and Caroline was someone I wish I had known even better. Until we meet again.”

The lyrics speak directly to the pain of loss and the hope of reunion:

Each tear that falls on my guitar
Is a hug from afar
Lord, please tell that angel I love her
As you all live in the stars

Millions of viewers felt the emotion in his voice and the honesty in his words. The song quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the season.

Most recently, John performed I Told You So by Randy Travis during the Iconic Idol Moments episode. The song, first released in 1988, was famously rerecorded by Travis with Carrie Underwood and performed on Idol in 2009.

John delivered the song without his guitar, letting his voice shine on its own. It was a powerful tribute to Randy Travis, who suffered a stroke over a decade ago but has made a remarkable recovery and is touring again thanks to modern technology.

From his first audition to his latest performance, John Foster continues to prove that he is not only a talented singer but also a storyteller with heart.

Watch his unforgettable performance of I Told You So and see why America is cheering for him.
