Jelly Roll and Brandon Lake Take “Hard Fought Hallelujah” to the Global Stage

When Brandon Lake released the new version of “Hard Fought Hallelujah” in February 2025, it became more than just a song — it became a powerful statement of faith and redemption. Originally introduced in 2024, the track gained new life when Lake invited country artist Jelly Roll to join him on a heartfelt duet.

In an interview with KLOVE, Lake shared the inspiration behind this choice:

“I wanted to share this song with somebody that had a really beautiful and hard-fought story. The first person that came to mind was Jelly.”

And that story is nothing short of inspiring.

Jelly Roll, once incarcerated in his youth, has walked a long road of transformation. Today, he’s one of the most respected artists in the world — not just for his music, but for the message of hope and change he brings with it.

“I’m honored that I was the call,” Jelly Roll said about the collaboration. “I’ve always admired Brandon Lake and what he’s doing for Christian music. He’s reaching people in a way that’s truly impactful.”

From Worship to the World

Since its release, “Hard Fought Hallelujah” has been performed on some of the most prestigious stages, including the Grand Ole Opry and American Idol. But one of the most unforgettable moments came at Stagecoach 2025, a major country music festival held in Indio, California.

Stagecoach featured top performers like Luke Combs, Zach Bryan, and Jelly Roll himself. But in the middle of his set, Jelly Roll created a deeply moving moment when he welcomed Brandon Lake to the stage.

As the two began to sing “Hard Fought Hallelujah”, the entire audience joined in. It became a moment of unity, emotion, and worship — something rarely seen at a music festival of that scale.

Lake later reflected on the experience in a TikTok post:

“WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!!! 🤯🤯🤯” He continued, “I don’t even know how to process all that just went down. Something wild is happening I wish I could tell each of you about. God’s so kind. As unforgettable as the moments on stage were, I’m thankful mostly for all the profound convos backstage. Hoping we get the invite back after how you all responded to last night. That was wild!!!”

A fan video of the performance quickly spread online, with one viewer noting that Jelly Roll had “dedicated the entire set to a message of hope and faith.”

And that’s exactly what happened. Beyond the music, Jelly Roll used his platform to uplift and inspire, bringing light and purpose to a global audience.
