Goldie Hawn Remembers Diane Keaton with Heartfelt Tribute: “We Agreed to Grow Old Together”

Hollywood is mourning the loss of one of its most beloved stars — Diane Keaton, who passed away on October 11 at the age of 79. Among the many emotional tributes shared, her longtime friend and The First Wives Club costar Goldie Hawn posted a touching message that beautifully captured their bond.

“Diane, We Aren’t Ready to Lose You”

On Instagram, Hawn poured her heart out, remembering Keaton as one of a kind:

“Diane, we aren’t ready to lose you,” Hawn began. “You’ve left us with a trail of fairy dust, filled with particles of light and memories beyond imagination.”

Her words were filled with emotion and admiration for a woman who had been both a dear friend and a creative inspiration.

“How do we say goodbye? What words can come to mind when your heart is broken? You never liked praise, so humble, but now you can’t tell me to ‘shut up,’ honey. There was, and will be, no one like you.”

 Friendship That Started with Laughter

Hawn reminisced about their time together filming the 1996 hit The First Wives Club, a comedy that became a cultural touchstone for female empowerment and friendship.

“We’d start our day with coffee in the makeup trailer, laughing and joking, right through to the very last day of filming,” Hawn recalled. “It was a roller coaster of love.”

Their friendship only deepened after the movie wrapped.

“We agreed to grow old together, and one day, maybe live together with all our girlfriends,” she wrote. “Well, we never got to live together, but we did grow older together. Who knows… maybe in the next life.”

“Shine Your Fairy Dust Up There, Girlfriend”

In her closing words, Goldie’s love and grief were palpable:

“Shine your fairy dust up there, girlfriend. I’m going to miss the hell out of you.”

She also extended her condolences to Keaton’s children, Dexter and Ruth, writing that Diane “stole the hearts of the world” and made audiences “laugh and cry in ways only she could.”

 A Bond Beyond the Screen

Hawn, Keaton, and Bette Midler starred together in The First Wives Club, playing three college friends who reunite after the death of a mutual friend — only to rediscover their strength, humor, and sisterhood.

The trio’s chemistry both on and off screen made the movie an enduring classic. Though fans long hoped for a sequel, the project never materialized. Still, their friendship remained strong decades later.

Midler also posted her own emotional tribute, calling Keaton “brilliant, beautiful, and extraordinary.”

“She was hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile or competitiveness,” Midler wrote. “What you saw was who she was… oh, la, lala!”

 A Timeless Spirit

Goldie Hawn’s message perfectly captures what made Diane Keaton so unforgettable — her humor, humility, and authenticity.

Two women who laughed, worked, and grew older together — now separated, but never truly apart.

“We agreed to grow old together,” Hawn wrote. “And in a way, we still will — because love like that never fades.”

💔 Rest in peace, Diane Keaton — a true original, and the heart of so many friendships and stories. 🤍
