Dolly Parton and Carl Dean were married in Ringgold, Georgia, in May 1966, and have been together for nearly sixty years. Early in their marriage, Dean decided to maintain a low profile and avoid the spotlight, and the couple chose not to have children.

Parton has stated that her husband’s decision to stay out of her work is a key reason their marriage has endured for so long. Their love story began when Parton moved to Nashville in 1964 to pursue her singing and songwriting career. They met at a laundromat when Parton was 18 and Dean was 22, and they’ve been inseparable ever since.
