Country Music Icon Alan Jackson Shares Exciting Life Update: ‘Blessings Overflowing’

Alan Jackson is preparing for his farewell tour, and the country music star recently shared insights into his decision to retire, highlighting his wish to spend more time with his family. This revelation follows closely on the heels of joyful family news: Jackson celebrated the arrival of a new grandchild last week.

Back in February, Jackson announced the expected arrival of another grandchild. The wait ended with the birth of his grandson, Wesley Alan Smith, last week.

“One week ago my life was forever changed,” shared Jackson’s daughter, Mattie. “Wesley Alan Smith joined our little family on June 20th, the absolute best birthday gift I could have ever imagined,” she added. “There is no greater honor than being chosen by God to be your mom. And there’s no sweeter joy than watching your daddy adore and protect you already. Even Ryman has reluctantly warmed up to her new little brother.”

“You have all my heart and my prayers, baby boy,” Mattie added warmly. “If you’re anything like both your namesakes (Connor’s grandad and @officialalanjackson), you’re destined for a remarkable life ahead (prayer emojis).”

In February, Alan Jackson shared his joy about the expanding family on X, previously known as Twitter.

“Blessings overflowing in our growing family!” he posted. “Denise and I are thrilled to welcome our second grandson in June! We’re so happy for proud parents Mattie and Connor Smith and can’t wait to meet the newest addition to our family.”

Earlier this month, Jackson opened up about his decision to retire following his upcoming tour. Now at 65, he reflected on his prolific career and the personal changes that are guiding his decisions now.

“I’ve been touring for over 30 years, you know, played across the country and in parts of the world,” Jackson shared in a video on X. “I’ve had a wonderful career, and now, in my twilight years, with all my daughters grown and one grandchild with another on the way, I find joy in spending more time at home. I don’t want to be away as much as I was in my younger days, and I don’t tour as much now as I did 10 years ago. But I think it’s getting time to start thinking about hanging it up full-time.”

Alan Jackson’s farewell tour, aptly named “Last Call: One More for the Road,” is scheduled to begin on August 2 and will include 10 dates, concluding on May 17, 2025.

In 2021, Jackson disclosed that he has Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a chronic neuropathic disorder that impairs balance and mobility. He discussed this condition in a recent video, explaining its role in his decision to retire.

“Most of my fans know I have a degenerative health condition inherited from my father that affects my legs, arms, and mobility, and it’s progressively worsening,” he said. “This makes performing on stage increasingly difficult for me, and I struggle more than I used to. I’m considering retiring while I can still perform to my standards, rather than waiting until I’m no longer able to meet those expectations.”

With his farewell tour on the horizon and the joy of a new grandson, Alan Jackson is preparing to enter a new phase of life, prioritizing his health and family.
