Alan Jackson Delivers Rare Performance for Grand Ole Opry’s 100th Birthday Celebration
|The Grand Ole Opry’s 100th-anniversary celebration is in full swing, bringing together nearly 40 of country music’s biggest stars. Among them was the legendary Alan Jackson, making a rare public appearance to honor the milestone event.
Alan Jackson’s Opry Journey
Alan Jackson’s history with the Grand Ole Opry goes back decades. He was invited to join in 1991, just one year after his debut performance in the famous circle, where he sang “Here in the Real World”—the title track from his debut album.
Country icons Roy Acuff and Randy Travis welcomed him into the Opry family, marking a moment Jackson still cherishes. Reflecting on his induction during an interview on Nashville Now, he told guest host Charlie Chase:
“Hard to believe six years ago I was carrying a bucket of mail over there every day for about $5 an hour. It’s an honor. I’m really proud because it’s a great institution. I don’t know if country music would exist without it.”
Jackson admitted he was overwhelmed with emotion when stepping onto the Opry stage as an official member.
“You think about the people who have stood on that piece of wood that came out of the Ryman Auditorium. From Roy Acuff … and Hank Williams. I could sit here and name names all night. It’s just an incredible feeling of the history.”
Alan Jackson’s Rare Opry 100 Performance
During Wednesday’s Opry 100 celebration, Alan Jackson performed his 1992 hit “Chattahoochee,” thrilling fans who have seen fewer live appearances from him in recent years.
The song, released as the third single from his A Lot About Livin’ (And a Little ‘Bout Love) album, became one of Jackson’s most iconic tracks. Reflecting on how the song came to be, he shared:
“Jim McBride and I were trying to write an up-tempo song, and Jim came in with the line ‘way down yonder on the Chattahoochee.’ It kind of went from there. We never thought it would be as big as it’s become.”
Alan Jackson’s presence at the Opry 100 celebration was a heartfelt reminder of his impact on country music and his deep connection to the Opry.
