A Subtle Nod: How Miranda Lambert & Chris Stapleton Honored Dolly and Kenny in Their New Music Video

After years of sharing stages and collaborations, Chris Stapleton and Miranda Lambert finally released their first official duet on July 11. The track, titled “A Song to Sing,” is a groovy, retro-inspired love song that instantly transports listeners back a few decades.

Co-written by Lambert, Stapleton, Jenee Fleenor, and Jesse Frasure, the song has drawn comparisons to some of country music’s most timeless duets of the ’70s and ’80s—most notably Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers’ classic “Islands in the Stream.”

A Retro Throwback in the Music Video

When the official music video premiered on August 22, fans saw Stapleton and Lambert dive headfirst into the vintage vibe. Decked out in full ’70s-inspired attire, the two stars performed their duet in a roller disco scene that felt straight out of another era.

Stapleton’s wife and longtime singing partner, Morgane Stapleton, also joined in the fun—stunning fans with her dazzling appearance in a glittery gold jumpsuit.

A Subtle Tribute to Dolly & Kenny

Fans watching closely noticed something even more special: a subtle homage to Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.

In a recent interview, Lambert revealed that both she and Stapleton wore jewelry from the country legends’ personal estates.

  • Stapleton sported a gold lion necklace that once belonged to Kenny Rogers (who passed away in 2020).

  • Lambert wore a pair of classic clip-on hoop earrings from Dolly Parton.

“What an honor,” Lambert said, reflecting on the chance to wear the iconic pieces. She later shared photos and behind-the-scenes clips showing off the jewelry in greater detail.
