Trump Faces Backlash After Mother’s Day Post Critics Say Was More About Himself Than Moms
Mother’s Day is being celebrated across the United States this Sunday, but President Donald Trump is facing criticism online after sharing a Truth Social message that many people felt had little to do with honoring mothers.

Trump began the post by wishing Americans a happy Mother’s Day weekend, but quickly shifted focus toward jobs, the economy, and attacks on political opponents.
He wrote:
“Happy Mother’s Day weekend to all, especially to the 115 THOUSAND AMERICANS who found jobs in the month of April alone!”
The president continued by praising the economy, criticizing Bloomberg economists, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, and Democrats, before ending with:
“Happy Mother’s Day and, know that, we are MAKING AMERICA WEALTHY AND SAFE AGAIN!”

The post sparked backlash online, with many social media users saying the message seemed centered more on politics and Trump himself than on mothers.
One user wrote:
“His post has nothing to do with motherhood.”
Another called the message “selfish,” while someone else commented:
“Trump marks Mother’s Day with a Truth Social post centered largely on himself. Per usual.”
The criticism came shortly after Trump spoke at a Mother’s Day luncheon held in the White House Rose Garden on May 8.
Among those attending were Gold Star mothers — women who lost children during military service — as well as “Angel Moms,” mothers whose children were killed by undocumented immigrants.
During the event, Trump used part of his speech to attack immigration policies and political opponents.
He claimed that “bad things happened” because of what he called “stupid borders,” and repeated controversial accusations about migrants entering the country under previous administrations.

Trump also alleged that prisoners from Congo were allowed into the United States through the southern border — a claim that has not been proven.
The president said:
“They emptied the prisons of the Congo into the area of the southern border… and these were hard, mean, vicious criminals.”
The remarks quickly drew attention online, adding to the controversy surrounding his Mother’s Day message.
