Queen Camilla Battles Lingering Illness, Misses Key Royal Events
|Queen Camilla, 77, continues to recover from a stubborn chest infection that has disrupted her royal schedule in recent weeks. Despite early hopes for a swift recovery, the illness has proven persistent, prompting her to miss several high-profile engagements.
On November 12, the Queen consort made her first public appearance since falling ill, hosting the prestigious Booker Prize ceremony. However, she had to leave the event early, before the winner was announced, explaining that she was “on the mend” but still dealing with lingering symptoms.
The illness, which began shortly after Queen Camilla and King Charles, 75, returned from their official tour of Australia and Samoa, has forced her to withdraw from many key engagements. The palace confirmed on November 5 that Camilla required a period of bed rest on medical advice, saying, “Her Majesty is unwell with a chest infection and will sadly miss engagements this week. She hopes to resume her duties in time for the Remembrance Day weekend.”
Despite this, the Queen was notably absent from the Cenotaph ceremony in London on Remembrance Sunday. King Charles led the royal family in honoring Britain’s fallen soldiers, with Prince William, Kate Middleton, and other senior royals by his side. Meanwhile, the Duchess of Gloucester, 78, stepped in for Camilla at the Field of Remembrance opening on November 7.
In her brief appearance at the Booker Prize, Queen Camilla expressed optimism about her recovery but acknowledged the lingering nature of her illness. “You think you’ve got rid of it, and then it just sort of hangs on. Hopefully, I’m on the mend now,” she said.
However, her recovery hasn’t been swift enough to allow her to attend the Royal Film Performance of Gladiator II on November 13. This marks a significant moment, as the event celebrates the centenary of London’s Film and TV Charity, which supports workers in the cinema industry. King Charles will represent the royal family alone at the star-studded premiere.
The palace has reassured the public that Camilla is continuing to rest and recover at home, with plans to gradually resume her public duties.
As Queen Camilla navigates her recovery, royal supporters are sending their well-wishes. Share your love and support for her in the comments and spread the word to wish her a speedy recovery!
