Kane Brown & Jelly Roll Open Up About Mental Health in Powerful New Duet “Haunted”

“Haunted” is featured on Kane Brown’s latest album, The High Road, which debuted on January 24.

Kane Brown and Jelly Roll joined forces for an emotional new collaboration, “Haunted,” a song that finds the hitmakers exploring their inner struggles with depression throughout the track’s poignant lyrics.

“‘Haunted’ is a song I wrote about depression,” Kane Brown explained in a statement. “It reflects everything I’ve gone through—and I know a lot of people relate to it, too. My goal was to spread awareness, because if you haven’t experienced these feelings, it’s tough to fully understand them. I think this song captures it pretty well, and my boy Jelly Roll jumped on it to take it even further.”

Throughout the track, Brown confronts the cold sweats and intense pressures he’s faced, revealing a persistent sense of loneliness despite fame and accomplishments. Even as a self-described “superstar,” he admits to feeling like a “ghost,” underscoring that mental health challenges can affect anyone. The song’s candid message serves as a reminder that no one is truly alone—celebrities and musicians included—regardless of how perfect their lives may appear on the outside.

Produced by Dan Huff and co-written by Brown alongside Gabe Foust and Jaxson Free, the haunting lyricism sets the tone for a raw and desolate tune.

Jelly Roll’s verse delves into the feeling of being lost even in the face of success, questioning whether everything he’s achieved truly holds value or if fame and fortune have only intensified his struggles.

Kane Brown has previously referred to “Haunted” as a “heavy song about depression and dark thoughts—feelings we all experience but don’t always share.”

Directed by Alex Alvga and shot between 2024 and early 2025, the visual depicts both artists wrestling with their mental health, revealing the pain of being alone in their thoughts as they work toward healing and confronting their inner demons.

“Haunted” appears on Kane Brown’s latest album, The High Road, released on January 24 under Sony Music Nashville. The 18-track record includes his current single “Backseat Driver,” as well as favorites like “I Am,” “Fiddle In The Band,” and “I Can Feel It.” It also features collaborations with Marshmello (“Miles On It”), Khalid (“Rescue”), Brad Paisley (“Things We Quit”), and Brown’s wife, Katelyn Brown (“Body Talk” and “Do Us Apart”).

“This album, The High Road, is my favorite I’ve ever made,” Brown shared. “I get to explore all sides of my story and styles of my music. Every song is important to me, and every collaboration means something personal. I’m so incredibly proud of this record.”
