George Strait to Bring Country Magic Back to “Death Valley” — With Cody Johnson

This week, country music fans got their hearts racing when George Strait dropped a tantalizing tease: something big is on the horizon for 2026. On October 14, his team shared an image of a vintage, autographed poster from the 1998 “George Strait Chevy Truck Country Music Festival,” with a caption reading:

“Gearing up for a 2026 announcement. Here’s a clue! Let us know your guess in the comments.”

That image—featuring a lineup that once boasted Tim McGraw, The Chicks, Kenny Chesney, Jo Dee Messina, Mark Wills, and Asleep at the Wheel—ignited intense speculation. Has he got a reunion tour in store? A Texas-based festival? Theories lit up comment threads.

Two days later, he dropped another hint: his Instagram story displayed a Clemson University football jersey with his name on it. That gesture only amplified the buzz.

A Long-Awaited Return to Clemson’s Stadium

On October 17, Strait confirmed what fans had long hoped for: a spectacular, one-night performance at Clemson University’s Memorial Stadium (nicknamed “Death Valley”). The concert is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026, with opening support from Cody Johnson and Wyatt Flores.

This will be the first concert hosted at Death Valley in over 25 years — the last time? When Strait himself headlined back in 1999.Reflecting on the long hiatus, Strait shared in a press release:

“Going back to Death Valley for the first time in more than 25 years feels pretty special. Can’t wait to see you, Clemson!”

The show promises a unique setup: it will be performed “in the round,” with the stage centered and surrounded by the audience.Expect a night blending beloved classics and newer material, up close and immersive.

The Build-Up & What It All Means

Strait’s 2026 announcement followed a slick social media campaign. First, the throwback poster hint. Then the Clemson jersey tease.Fans also connected this to the fact that in 2025 he scaled down his touring — playing just a few stadium shows (including a blockbuster at Texas A&M’s Kyle Field that drew 110,905 people).

That Coy Johnson and Wyatt Flores jumped on board added extra excitement. Both artists shared their honor at being part of what’s shaping up to be a historic night.
