Darryl Worley Is Bringing Back “Have You Forgotten?” And He Wants America To Hear It Together
Twenty-five years later, one of country music’s most powerful patriotic songs is coming back.
Darryl Worley has recut “Have You Forgotten?” for its 25th anniversary, with the new version set to be released tomorrow.
But he’s not simply putting an old song back on streaming services.
Worley has a much bigger idea.

He wants radio stations across America to play the song at exactly 9:11 in the morning — all at the same time. 🇺🇸
The timing is intentional, creating a nationwide moment of remembrance built around a song that became deeply connected to the aftermath of September 11.
The song came from a very personal place
Worley wrote the original song with songwriter Wynn Varble after returning home from the war zone in Afghanistan.
He said he wanted to create something for the people who were on the front lines in a different way — first responders, members of the military, and families who had lost loved ones.
It wasn’t originally written as a political statement.
It was written as a remembrance.
And when Worley performed it live at the Grand Ole Opry in January 2003, during a Friday night salute to veterans, something happened that he couldn’t have predicted.
The reaction was enormous.
That Opry performance helped set the song on its path to becoming one of the defining patriotic country songs of its era.
Then everything changed
“Have You Forgotten?” quickly became much bigger than a song Worley had written.
It reached No. 1 in just five weeks and remained at the top of the country chart for seven weeks.
For many listeners, the song became tied to memories of September 11, military service, sacrifice and the emotions of a country still trying to understand what had happened.
Now, a quarter-century later, Worley is revisiting those same words and that same message.
But he has been clear about something.
This was never intended to be a political statement.
For Worley, the heart of the song has always been about remembering — remembering the people who served, the first responders who answered the call, and the families who carried the deepest losses.
And now he wants Americans to hear it together.
At 9:11 a.m., radio stations that participate could turn the song into one simultaneous national moment.
Twenty-five years after “Have You Forgotten?” first became part of the country’s musical memory, Darryl Worley is asking a simple question again:
Will we remember?
