Officer joins students on the dance floor, showing off moves that rack up over 20 million views.
|Officer Ryan Tillman, a beloved school resource officer at Don Lugo High School in California, found a unique and unforgettable way to say goodbye.
After building strong relationships with students and staff, Tillman was set to leave his post following a well-earned promotion to Chino Police Corporal. But rather than a traditional farewell, he decided to make his exit in a way no one would forget—through dance.
A Surprise Performance
Working with the school’s principal and dance team, Officer Tillman orchestrated a surprise performance during a school assembly. Speaking to NBC Los Angeles, he shared his motivation:
“I wanted to make a big exit, so I thought, what better way than to dance?”
As the assembly began, excitement filled the gymnasium. When Lil Mama’s Lip Gloss started playing, Tillman stepped onto the stage, proving he was more than just an officer—he had serious moves!
The crowd erupted in cheers as he danced alongside students, fully committed to the routine despite wearing his full police uniform.
Bringing Back the 90s
Midway through the performance, the music switched to MC Hammer’s U Can’t Touch This, sending the energy in the room soaring. Officer Tillman nailed the signature 90s shuffle, impressing students and staff alike.
Another school resource officer applauded Tillman’s boldness, commenting:
“I’m also an SRO, but I could NEVER get up in front of staff and students to dance. Kudos to you for doing it. Many people don’t realize the balance SROs must strike with young people at their schools.”
More Than Just a Dance
Beyond the entertainment, Officer Tillman’s performance was a testament to his dedication to building positive relationships within the school community. His goal was not only to thank the students and staff but also to “shine a positive light” on law enforcement, as he told NBC Los Angeles.
His commitment to bridging the gap between police officers and the public extends beyond the dance floor. Tillman is the founder of Breaking Barriers United, an organization focused on fostering transparency and trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
A Viral Sensation
Since its release, the video of Tillman’s farewell dance has gone viral, capturing hearts everywhere. One viewer summed up the widespread admiration perfectly:
“Every city needs a cop like you! Great job!”
While farewells are often bittersweet, Officer Tillman turned his into a celebration—one filled with energy, joy, and unforgettable moves.
