Miranda Lambert’s Husband Went From Saying “I Don’t Know How To Write Songs” To Co-Writing Five Tracks On Her New Album

Brendan McLoughlin never planned on becoming a country songwriter. In fact, when Miranda Lambert encouraged him to start writing songs with her during the COVID lockdowns, his response was simple: he didn’t know how to write songs.

Miranda kept encouraging him anyway. What started as something they did together while stuck at home eventually turned into something much bigger.

Brendan earned his first official songwriting credit in 2024 with “Dammit Randy,” from Miranda’s album Postcards From Texas. Miranda later said he became emotional when she recorded the song — and once he heard his song on the album, he apparently couldn’t stop talking about it.

Now, Brendan has taken another big step forward.

On Miranda’s new album Crisco, he is credited as a co-writer on five songs: “Snakeskin Boots,” her duet with Ella Langley, along with “Cowgirl Curtsy,” “Two Things Can Be True,” “Till The Going’s Gone,” and “Right Where We Left It.”

That is quite a jump from someone who once said he didn’t know how to write a song.

And the story gets even more interesting when you consider where Brendan started. Before becoming Miranda Lambert’s husband and a songwriter, he worked as a New York City police officer.

Now, he has become part of Miranda’s creative process, with his name attached to five songs on her latest album.

What began with Miranda simply encouraging him to sit down and write has turned into an unexpected second career.

From NYPD officer to songwriter — Brendan McLoughlin certainly didn’t see this chapter coming.
