Megan Moroney Was Just 3 Years Old When 9/11 Took Her Uncle Years Later, She Turned That Loss Into A Heartbreaking Song
Megan Moroney’s Heartbreaking Connection To 9/11 Inspired One Of Her Most Emotional Songs

For Megan Moroney, September 11 is more than a date remembered in history.
It is also the day her family lost someone they loved.
Megan was just three years old when her uncle, Dennis Gerard Moroney, was killed during the 9/11 attacks.
Dennis was 39 years old and worked at the World Trade Center as a senior vice president at Cantor Fitzgerald. Like so many others that morning, he never made it home.
Years later, Megan found herself thinking about her uncle — but especially about his wife, Nancy.
And one small detail from their final conversation stayed with her.
Dennis and Nancy had talked about getting an oil change.
It was an ordinary conversation between a husband and wife. Neither of them knew it would be their last.
Megan later explained that she tried to imagine what that must have been like for her aunt.
She wondered what Nancy might have wished she had said if she had known she would never get another chance to talk to Dennis.
That thought became the inspiration for “Heaven By Noon.”
The emotional song appeared on Megan’s 2024 album Am I Okay?, turning an unimaginable family loss into something deeply personal and relatable.
The song imagines the final conversation from the perspective of someone who suddenly realizes how much they would have wanted to say if they had known goodbye was coming.
That is what makes “Heaven By Noon” hit so differently.
It isn’t simply about September 11.
It is about unfinished conversations, unexpected goodbyes, and the things we wish we could say when we don’t know a moment is going to be our last.
Megan has continued to remember Dennis over the years.
On the 24th anniversary of 9/11, she shared a tribute featuring his name at the 9/11 Memorial in New York City.

His name remains among the thousands memorialized there.
For Megan, his memory has become part of her music — a way of keeping someone she barely had the chance to know from ever being forgotten.
And perhaps that is the most heartbreaking part.
Dennis left home one morning expecting to return.
His last conversation with his wife was about something as ordinary as an oil change.
Years later, his niece turned that tiny detail into a song about the enormous weight of an unexpected goodbye.
“Heaven By Noon” is Megan Moroney’s reminder that sometimes the most ordinary goodbye can become the one you wish you could have back forever. 🇺🇸❤️
Dennis Moroney will never be forgotten.
