Lainey Wilson’s Last Conversation With Dolly Parton Is Leaving Fans in Tears

When Dolly Parton passed away on August 25, Lainey Wilson couldn’t find the words.

At first, she shared just one photo of herself hugging Dolly. No long caption. No explanation.

Just the picture.

Sometimes, grief doesn’t need words.

Two days later, Lainey returned with a collection of memories — photos of the two country stars together, clips from their collaborations, and a deeply personal message about the woman she called “My Dolly.”

And then she revealed something that made the tribute even more heartbreaking.

Dolly had called Lainey just a couple of weeks before she died.

Their conversation wasn’t just about music.

They talked about the music business. They talked about the Bible. And Dolly, in her unmistakable way, even gave Lainey some advice about reading Revelation — telling her to take her time and maybe go back to Psalms when she needed to catch her breath.

But Dolly had another piece of advice for Lainey.

This time, it was about marriage.

Lainey had recently married Devlin “Duck” Hodges, and Dolly — who had spent nearly six decades married to Carl Dean — offered her a simple lesson about building a life together:

“It’s all great and stuff that Duck lets you be you, but you better make sure you let Duck be himself too.”

It was classic Dolly.

Warm. Wise. Simple.

And deeply personal.

Lainey also remembered how Dolly had always made people feel like they were already friends before they even met. Once their friendship became real, Lainey said, they had plenty to talk about.

The two women even shared the stage before.

During Dolly’s 2024 Pet Gala special, Lainey joined her for a beautiful duet of “I Will Always Love You.”

Looking back at that performance now, it carries a completely different weight.

Lainey ended her tribute with a message that was perhaps the most emotional part of all.

She said she couldn’t wait to see Dolly again — imagining the day they meet in heaven, with Dolly still joking with her about keeping her hair in place.

“Don’t mess up hair, Lainey girl.”

And then came the words that said everything:

“I will always love you, my friend.”

Dolly spent her life giving people love, laughter, wisdom, music and light.

And even now, through the memories of the people who knew her best, that light is still shining.
