Kid Rock Turns His Faith Into Music And His New Song Has a Powerful Story Behind It

Kid Rock is opening a new chapter in his music career — and this time, he’s putting his faith front and center.

The rocker has announced a new Christian music project, and his first song, “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King),” is already getting attention because of the deeply personal story behind it.

The song follows Kid Rock’s recent faith-driven version of Cody Johnson’s “’Til You Can’t,” which he performed with a newly written verse. The song went on to reach No. 1 on the Hot Christian Songs chart, while also making an impact on the country and rock charts.

That experience inspired Kid Rock to keep writing.

He explained that he wanted to create songs celebrating Jesus and his faith while still staying true to the musical styles that shaped him — rock, country and hip-hop.

The song came to him in the middle of the night

According to Kid Rock, the new song came together unexpectedly. He said he woke up around 2 a.m. one morning, and within roughly 30 minutes, the song was written.

The biblical reference also carries a personal connection for him. He previously explained that James 1:17 stood out because James is his middle name and January 17 is his birthday.

The Bible verse speaks about every good and perfect gift coming from above, a message that fits directly into the song’s theme of faith, redemption and gratitude.

The new album is called Halfway To Jesus

Kid Rock’s new Christian album, Halfway To Jesus, is scheduled for release on October 17.

The artwork features him climbing toward a cross, with the devil positioned at the bottom of the mountain — a visual representation of the spiritual journey at the heart of the project.

But the accompanying music video for “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King)” takes that message even further.

Released October 1, the video includes a particularly meaningful moment involving 17-year-old Kalvin Lynch, a fan battling an aggressive brain tumor whose Make-A-Wish request was to play drums with Kid Rock.

The video also pays tribute to Jimmie Bones, Kid Rock’s longtime keyboard player, who is battling ALS.

From the stage to a street musician, a revival and an emotional baptism scene, the video tells a story centered around faith, second chances and finding a new path.

And in one of its final moments, children from The Miraculous Love Kids appear singing the song from Pakistan.

For Kid Rock, this project represents something different from anything fans have seen from him before — a collection of music where his faith isn’t simply part of the message.

It is the message.
