Jack Black & Jimmy Fallon Recreate Classic “More Than Words” Music Video In Hilarious Parody

Undoubtedly, Extreme’s greatest hit is their timeless ballad “More Than Words,” and the Boston rockers paired it with an equally iconic black-and-white music video. Enter funnyman Jack Black, who dropped by *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon* to recreate the classic clip with Fallon, resulting in pure comedy gold. Black took on the role of Extreme’s frontman, Gary Cherone, complete with flowing hazel locks, while Fallon sported an equally impressive mane as guitarist Nuno Bettencourt. The hilarious tribute captured the essence of the original, with a playful twist.

Black re-recorded the unmistakable acoustic guitar part for the video and stepped in to provide lead vocals as well. Although the video is meant to be comedic, you have to give credit where it’s due—Black did an outstanding job tackling the challenging vocals, especially those impressive high notes. It’s a vocal range we haven’t heard him explore before, making it all the more impressive. Meanwhile, both Black and Fallon’s comedic timing was spot-on, with the duo pulling off some hilariously exaggerated facial expressions throughout the performance.

In the video clip, Fallon strums an acoustic guitar and joins in on the backing vocals. While it’s clear he didn’t play the guitar part heard in the video, there’s a good chance he provided the backing vocals himself, as the voice sounds unmistakably like his. The vocal arrangement fits perfectly, contributing to the video’s success, which has since become a hit on YouTube, racking up 35.8 million views.

“More Than Words” was written and performed by Gary Cherone and Nuno Bettencourt. Extreme released the song on March 12, 1991, as the third single from their second studio album.
