Dolly Parton’s Song Turns Tennessee Football Hype Video Into an Unexpected Tearjerker

The University of Tennessee wanted to get fans ready for football season. Instead, they gave them a moment that had many reaching for the tissues.

The Volunteers have been honoring Dolly Parton throughout the 2026 football season, just days after the Tennessee legend passed away. Now, the university has released a new hype video that brings her music, her roots and the spirit of Tennessee together in a way that feels incredibly personal.

Titled “Our Tennessee Home,” the video is set to Dolly’s beloved 1973 song “My Tennessee Mountain Home.”

And that choice makes perfect sense.

The song was inspired by Dolly’s childhood in rural East Tennessee and the simple surroundings that helped shape the woman who would eventually become one of the most recognizable artists in the world.

As scenes of Tennessee and Volunteers football unfold, Dolly’s voice provides the soundtrack, turning what could have been a typical football hype video into something much more emotional.

It feels less like a sports promo and more like a love letter to Tennessee.

Dolly’s connection to the Vols runs deep

Dolly grew up in Sevierville, about 30 miles from the University of Tennessee. Although she never attended the school, her connection to the university and her home state has remained strong for decades.

In 2009, Tennessee awarded her an honorary doctorate.

Then, in 2023, Dolly returned to Neyland Stadium for a special appearance that Vols fans will never forget. She joined Tennessee football legend Peyton Manning and performed “Rocky Top” in front of the massive crowd.

Now, following her death, the university has made sure her presence is felt throughout the entire football season.

The Vols are carrying Dolly with them

Before the season began, Tennessee announced that every football player would wear an orange butterfly decal on their helmet in Dolly’s memory.

The university also introduced a special Dolly Parton karaoke camera, giving fans the opportunity to sing along to some of her most famous songs during games.

During the season opener on September 5, the tribute became even more powerful.

Dolly’s “I Will Always Love You” played throughout Neyland Stadium, and the crowd joined together in a massive sing-along honoring her legacy.

The Pride of the Southland marching band also paid tribute by forming Dolly’s name on the field.

And then came the new hype video.

“My Tennessee Mountain Home” hits differently now

Released as “Our Tennessee Home,” the video uses Dolly’s “My Tennessee Mountain Home” to celebrate the place she never stopped calling home.

The song paints a picture of rural Tennessee — honeysuckle, summer air, distant hills, songbirds and the feeling of growing up surrounded by simple beauty.

Those words have always carried a special meaning for Dolly fans.

But after her passing, hearing them paired with images of Tennessee and the Volunteers makes them feel even more emotional.

Fans quickly reacted to the video, praising the university for finding a way to connect Dolly’s music with the state, its people and one of Tennessee’s biggest traditions.

For many, it was more than just a football hype video.

It was a reminder that Dolly Parton’s voice is woven into the story of Tennessee itself.

And now, every time that song plays, it carries another layer of meaning.

Dolly may be gone, but her Tennessee home will always have a place in the hearts of the people who loved her.
