Parton died Tuesday at 80 years old following a brief battle with cancer, according to a statement from her representatives. The type of cancer was not disclosed.
Her team said Dolly died at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, surrounded by the people she loved.
“After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today … surrounded by loved ones.”
The statement also highlighted the extraordinary life she spent bringing joy, hope and generosity to others, pointing to her Imagination Library and her support for medical research, including funding that helped contribute to a lifesaving vaccine.
A Final Goodbye Surrounded by Family

The Legacy Dolly Leaves Behind
Dolly Parton spent more than six decades building a legacy that went far beyond music.
She gave the world “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” “Coat of Many Colors,” “I Will Always Love You” and countless other songs that became part of American culture.
But her impact was never measured only by record sales or awards.
Through the Imagination Library, she helped put hundreds of millions of books into children’s hands. She also supported medical research, education and countless charitable causes.
That’s why her passing feels so much bigger than the loss of a singer.
Dolly Parton touched generations of people who never even had the chance to meet her.
And now, as fans around the world say goodbye, her family is honoring the wishes of a woman who spent her entire life giving so much to everyone else.
A private farewell for a woman whose legacy belongs to the whole world.
