Ella Langley Is Just Two Weeks Away From a Potentially Historic Moment

Ella Langley is two weeks away from finding out if “Choosin’ Texas” will officially be crowned Billboard’s Song of the Summer—and country music fans have plenty of reasons to be watching.

Billboard doesn’t announce its Song of the Summer until after Labor Day, but the early signs are looking very good for Langley.

On Billboard’s current Summer Songs chart, “Choosin’ Texas” sits at No. 1, ahead of massive releases from Drake and Taylor Swift.

And this isn’t just another chart-topping country song.

“Choosin’ Texas” has been the No. 1 song in America since the Fourth of July.

That’s an incredible run for a song that sounds unmistakably country.

Could Ella Langley Make History?

There’s another reason this year’s race has people paying attention.

As Rolling Stone pointed out when making the case for Langley earlier this summer, the songs that have previously won Billboard’s Song of the Summer title—including “Old Town Road,” “Last Night,” and “I Had Some Help”—all carried significant pop or crossover appeal.

But “Choosin’ Texas” is different.

It doesn’t need to hide its country roots to become a massive mainstream hit.

It’s country through and through—and it’s competing against some of the biggest names in music.

If Langley wins, it could mark a major moment for country music and prove that a song doesn’t have to cross completely into pop to dominate the summer.

For now, there’s nothing left to do but wait.

Two weeks.

Then we’ll know if Ella Langley and “Choosin’ Texas” officially own the summer
