Dolly Parton Fans Want Nashville Airport Renamed in Her Honor—And the Petition Is Exploding

Dolly Parton may soon have an extraordinary new legacy in Nashville—and fans are making their voices heard.

Following the country icon’s death, a petition calling for Nashville International Airport (BNA) to be renamed Dolly Parton International Airport has exploded in support.

The petition, which was originally launched in January 2025, had already attracted significant attention. After Dolly’s passing, tens of thousands of people rushed to sign it, pushing the total past 90,000 verified signatures.

The idea is simple: Nashville is known around the world as Music City, and supporters believe few people represent Tennessee’s music, generosity and global influence more than Dolly.

The petition describes Dolly as a Tennessee treasure whose impact went far beyond music, pointing to her Imagination Library, philanthropy and decades of influence.

And now, this isn’t just an online fan campaign.

A Tennessee Lawmaker Says He’ll Act

Tennessee State Representative Todd Warner has pledged to introduce legislation to rename BNA Dolly Parton International Airport.

Nashville Metro Councilman Russ Bradford has also backed the idea and said he is working to have the Metro Nashville Airport Authority consider the proposal.

That gives the campaign something it didn’t have before: political momentum.

Of course, signing a petition doesn’t automatically change the airport’s name. Any official renaming would still have to go through the appropriate airport authorities, with federal approval also required.

But the sheer response shows just how deeply Dolly touched people.

She wasn’t simply a country singer who happened to come from Tennessee.

She helped put Nashville on the map, built businesses, supported children through literacy programs, gave generously to communities in need and became one of the most recognizable faces Tennessee has ever produced.

And now fans are asking for something permanent.

Imagine landing in Nashville and seeing “Dolly Parton International Airport” on the sign.

For millions of people, it would feel like the perfect welcome to Music City.
