Bonnie Tyler, the legendary singer whose powerful vocals made “Total Eclipse of the Heart” one of the biggest songs of the 1980s, has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 75, according to a statement released by her family and team.
The heartbreaking news comes just weeks after Tyler suffered a serious medical emergency while in Portugal.

A Difficult Battle
In May, Bonnie Tyler experienced a medical emergency that required emergency intestinal surgery.
Following the operation, doctors placed her into a medically induced coma to give her body the best chance to recover.
In mid-June, her family shared the encouraging news that she had awakened from the coma. However, they also revealed that she remained in intensive care and was still critically ill.
Sadly, her condition took a devastating turn.
Early Thursday morning, Tyler’s family confirmed that she had passed away in a hospital in Portugal on the evening of July 8.
In their emotional statement, they said:
“Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.”
The family also asked for privacy as they grieve and said that more information will be shared in the coming days.
