“Al Pacino and I Only Rehearsed the Tango Prior to Shooting”

Martin Brest’s landmark film “Scent of a Woman” was released in 1992, renowned for its compelling script and the memorable tango scene. More than three decades later, the dance between Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade and Donna remains one of the most enchanting moments in film history. The movie achieved global box office success, grossing $134,095,253.

Al Pacino’s outstanding performance earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor. The film also received nominations for Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published. At the Golden Globe Awards, it took home three major prizes: Best Screenplay, Best Actor, and Best Motion Picture – Drama.

British-American actress Gabrielle Anwar was only 19 years old when she starred alongside Al Pacino, and she gained worldwide fame following the release of the film.

Thirty years on from the filming of “Scent of a Woman,” Gabrielle Anwar looks back on the legendary tango scene and her experiences behind the scenes.

“A great film. My children all watched this film as seniors in high school and learned so much from the narrative. I was on set for a few days and learned much from working with such a high calibre director and actor. Pacino and I rehearsed the tango prior to shooting but did very little dancing together until we filmed the scene. He was a true gentleman. Marty Brest, the director was one of my favorite experiences being guided into a role.” said Gabrielle n an exclusive interview with Nino Tsipuria.

Following this scene, many women began emulating her look from the film, adopting the same hairstyle, wearing dresses like hers, and mimicking her movements. This scene stands out almost as a distinct film within the film itself.
